Anyone got some A's for my Q's?

The only MoFo thread I've seen so far on the new PPK is the press release one, so I don't wanna hijack that one.

After hearing Isa speak at Chicago Vegan Mania a couple of weeks ago, she inspired me to start a blog. Then I decided to go "all the way" and sign up for Vegan Mofo! But, now I've got a couple small concerns.

My blog is brand new and I've only got 6 "followers" and TWO of those are Concrete Cowgirl, under different names! And one of them is my mom!
So....although I plan on blogging every day, who the heck will even see my posts? I know there's gonna be a blogroll on the MoFo website, but I guess I feel a little discouraged being so new at blogging and not quite having the hang of it yet.

Also, should I link to the main MoFo blogroll page with every post? I'd like to do that to help get the word out (to my five followers!), just not sure if I should attach the logo pic, or the link, or both, or somehow have the link attached to the pic....and so forth and so on..

Suggestions? Advice?

I started a blog for mofo. I'm not sure how it works on blogger, but on wordpress I just put an image widget in my sidebar and made the image link to the main mofo site.

I think you'll find you gain some new readers simply by participating in mofo. Last year I participated for the first time and received a lot of comments from people I'd never seen around before. Once people visit once they'll probably continue if they like your style and content.

Just have fun with it and the readers will come.

another great way to get readers is to leave comments on other people's blogs! whenever I get comments from people - especially people whose name I don't recognize - I always go and check out their blog. Can't wait to see what you do for mofo!

yes, what amey said X100. there are so many great blogs writing during mofo, i try very hard to leave at least ten comments a day. not just to get readers, but to let folks know i am reading their blog. also, you can go to statcounter.com and for free put a counter on your blog that will let you know how many visitor you're getting, how long they are staying on your blog and where they came from.

The reason we have the RSS feed is so that all of the MoFo posts come up in the reader. That means everyone gets visitors! Also, when we do round-ups we link to many blogs. So if you are included in a round-up then you get even more visitors. The best way to be included in a round-up is to blog a lot on varied topics.

Don't be discouraged! I know I had barely even started a blog when I did my first MoFo, but there were so many people commenting that I really felt part of something by the end of it all. It really does build community. I have nothing really to add to the advice already given. Just have fun and don't stress yourself out!

Don't rely on what blogger says your follower count is, either. I think blogger users often fail to realise that's not an accurate reading of followers; it's simply others with blogger accounts who've subscribed. There could be a billion others who are subscribed to your feed via other platforms.

And what Kittee said: install a stats tracker and you'll be able to get so much interesting site data you'll wet yourself in a craze of happypantsdance.

I third/fourth the stats tracker thing. No one really ever posts comments on my blog, but I know (/hope) people are reading it, and that some people are even coming back for more because of the stats on google analytics (I like it a lot, it's easy and straightforward to use and set up).

Yeah, I don't have a lot of followers either, but I joined too. I love stalking people virtually. I just couldn't be a great stalker IRL, too much work. RSS is my friend.

I checked up on my stats because of this thread. One of the recent searches that led to my blog: "black girl getting spanked." Say whaaaaat?!

Everyone's blog has to start somewhere and usually always starts with your mom and 5 friends so don't worry. Blog what you love to write about and it will catch on!

also, another thing you can do is giveaway a chocolate bar or something. Then, all of a sudden you'll get like 45 comments, instead of two.

Where can I find an easy to use, online, free random number generator thingy?
