I'm hosting a Black and White Ball for NYE this year, asking guests to dress in formal or creative black and white clothing; decorating with black and white balloons, table cloths, candles; and I'd like to incorporate some black and white food and drink to go with the theme. All foods will be of the appetizer, hors d'oeuvre, finger food variety. I don't expect everything I serve to fit the theme, but it would be fun to have some of it be black and/or white either in name or in actual color. I'm looking for ingredient or recipe suggestions. So far I've got:
Black:
black bean
black berry
black bread
black sesame seeds
licorish
very dark chocolate
black russian

White:
white bean
white bread
white rice
white sesame seeds
white chocolate (if I can find it vegan)
blanched almonds
cashews
macadamia nuts
white wine
white russian

So far, I'm thinking of making black bean salsa, white bean bruschetta served with white and black bread, stuffed white rice balls coated in white and black sesame seeds, maybe some sort of blackened tofu/tempe/seitan/, and miniature black berry tarts.

More ideas please!

you can make mini chocolate cups like this:
Image
You just paint a mini cupcake liner with melted chocolate and peel off the liner once it's hardened. Fill them with something white. Frosting, vanilla pudding, whipped cream, etc.
Or if you've got white chocolate, make the cups out of that and fill them with chocolate mousse.
Or do both.

You might be able to special order a batch of VeganSweets jelly beans that only has the black and white ones.

Donuts?

Sweet William (an Australian vegan chocolate brand) makes white chocolate. I find it way too sweet, but I never liked 'normal' white chocolate for that reason. A lot of people love it though- my tattoo artist loses his mind over it, I think he would live off the stuff if he could.

Great idea! I'll definitely do something with them.

Black olives! But I think I'll stuff them with seasoned tofuti cream cheese or something other than strait up garlic so people can kiss at midnight.

Believe it or not Fee, I actually made those a couple years ago as part of my Antarctica table. People kept talking about them, photographing them, but not eating them, cause they were so cute! Ever since people reminded me of black olives, I've been thinking of bringing the penguins back for this party.
