I think the cat I'm sitting for, Jack, is having coughing fits. It almost sounds like a wheezy hairball, but there is not any sort of spit up happening. It gets pretty intense for him, it seems, but then he just goes about like nothing happened after. Has anyone else had cat coughing issues? I can't get him to the vet until tonight at the earliest, so I thought I'd pick the PPK's collective brains in the mean time.

Nevermind, found a thread on cat asthma. Turns out I misspelled coughing in my original search.

Our cat does that every now and then, and then gets some petromalt and moves on like nothing ever happened. Its quite dramatic.

Now Leela, our 2 year old, will come running to help him with his "medicine" which is supersweet.

I think the worst that can happen is that a cat might have eaten some sort of non-food crepe. This has happened to two of my four cats in the last 6 months. First, Moomoo had a thing for hair ties. He puked up a huge pile of about 20 of them (evidently they smell like cat food, so he ate them instead of food). We got scared & took him to the vet; they x-rayed him, and the vet removed several more from his intestines. He's had a long road to healing, and is still too thin. Another one of our cats, Lollie, was eating really weird stuff for no reason we could figure out (like scotch tape, bungee cords, and just general crepe). Same routine - xrays, then surgery. She recovered a lot more quickly than Moomoo. Anyhow, we were alerted because of coughs followed by puking. If your cat isn't puking when he coughs, I really doubt it's anything bad, but watch out if there is any puking. I hope no one has to go through what we went through. I was scared I would lose Moomoo.

Yes, Lovey was doing this last night, in fact. All of my cats have done this occasionally. It always freaks me out but it always self-resolves. Thank god! And they seem perfectly fine after their little coughing fits.
