I'm not from Pittsburgh, but I'm going to be visiting on New Years. My boyfriend is going to the Winter Classic hockey game on New Years Day and I'm looking for ideas of how to spend my day. Recommendations for spas, restaurants, fun times are welcome!
Thank you!

there is a casino right next to the Heinz field.. I mean if all else fails.. The Double Wide is pretty good and there is a lot to do on the south side.. (and the south side is not really that far from the north side where the game is).
I know I will be watching the game and eating Veggie dogs and maybe even veggie nachos since well it is a hockey game.. BUT... NO CAPS FANS ALLOWED :)

Honestly with work and 2 shorties I don't go out much. For Me good means someplace that has something I can eat that doesn't taste like dishwater. I have to try Spak Bros. sounds good..

I like your standards, zero pressure! Seriously, I ate at Spak Bros. 4 out of the 7 days I was last in Pittsburgh. I recommend the buffalo seitan hoagie.
I miss Kassab's sometimes. And chickpea chili from Mad Mex (but I have the recipe for it).

I learned the hard way-zenith has inconsistent hours. Double wide has a great beer selection as well as good food! Get a hotel now! They may already be sold out a lot of places!

I'm a snob and after they expanded I never drank another Yuengling.

Spak Brothers is great. The seitan wings were kind of salty for my taste but people seem to like them. They have a nice philly seitan hoagie. Kassab's, Zenith and Quiet Storm are good. I can't stand the Double Wide. The food is mediocre at best and the servers act like they're doing you a favor. Try Gooski's if you feel like drinking-best jukebox in pittsburgh. :)

You can't get it west of the Mississippi, and since I'm on the west coast, I try to have some when I'm at home. Only in bottles, though, never cans or draught. You couldn't pay me to touch I.C. Light with a 10-foot pole.

Mad Mex! Went there for lunch with the fam when I was just home visiting. Had no idea they had vegan fare! I got the tofu tacos and they were seriously awesome. I really want to recreate them at home. Definitely looking forward to my next trip back.

Down the street from them is Spice Island Tea House, which has a vegetarian section on the menu, and I've asked them a half a dozen times if anything on the veggie section has fish sauce ("no"). I have to go there on a weekly basis to get my green curry fix. So tasty.

I went to CMU in the mid/late 90s and was so hooked on Mad Mex, although I ate dairy at the time. Chickpea Chili was the best. There was/is also a slew of amazing Indian food.

I'm a current CMU student. The only part I don't like about Mad Mex is that it's a mile away, and it's COLD outside. There is still a lot of indian food. There's a good Indian restaurant and an Indian grocery right around the corner, though the grocery has very little in the way of fresh food (lots of maggi, though).

I just was at quiet storm and I'm a little ticked off. I ordered the "cheese snake" which is vegan and they brought it out all non- veganed up! It had regular cheese and mayo on it. I love that place and I hate sending food back but what the fizzle? Another time I asked of everyting I got was vegan and the server still brought me regular milk with my coffee.

Woo, Go Pittsburgh!
I see the Doublewide and Quiet storm got mentions, excellent. The difficulties there are a bit troubling though.
Lets see some fellow Pittsburgh Vegans!
