Natalie Portman is making Dior vegan shoes now. WANT!!!!

Sounds like she's getting Dior to make vegan shoes for her. There's no consumer line.

I second vegimator. Dior just custom made shoes for her. I wish I had had a chance to pick up some of her shoes that she designed for Te Casan before the store closed last year.

Darn it. Just one more reason why I wish I were her.

Maybe this will lead to a consumer line being available? :)

So she is donning vegan kicks to get people to buy the skin ones? No thanks! Maybe that will get Dior thinking but I doubt it!

Basically, that is like me making a vegan double-down and eating it in a KFC advert... it is interesting mind-play but KFC still makes bank systematically killing animals and polluting the environment. Oh, and I would be paid by KFC, so I would also be getting rich off of the mistreatment and murder of millions of animals as well as the inhumane labor practices.

Yeah that's a really good point. It reminds me of how Ellen is a Covergirl spokesperson. But Ellen has addressed that contradiction, hasn't she? I can't remember if/how she did. Still...

Ellen's on contract, which she signed before she was vegan. I'm not endorsing that as a reasonable excuse, but I do thoroughly respect Ellen for being as open about her veganism as she has been on her show.

Regarding the Natalie Portman shoe thing, so is she vegan now (again)? I want to like her, but I can't get over how obnoxious she is.

Yeah and with Ellen, she gives so much away and does SO MUCH for veganism that I can't fault her for anything. I love her. Maybe Natalie will give the money from the endorsement deal to vegan orgs :P I hope it does turn into Dior making a vegan consumer line. That would be a big deal.

She is advertising the perfume, not the shoes so Im not so sure the KFC analogy holds. Maybe I am being overly charitable in interpreting this, but given her previous involvement in making vegan shoes, this could be a test.

Sure, the shoes would still be $1200 if they did make it to Saks or Barneys, but a couture line selling non leather shoes would do a lot to making the materials acceptable at the higher end, which would hopefully trickle down.

As it stands, if a mid range mass consumer brand like Nine West or somebody started making non leather shoes, they would be looked at as cheaper or cost cutting so they aren't going to do it for fear of diluting their brand. If Dior does it first, it could start a change. Even Stella McCartney won't do it.

Given the new vegan Marc Jacobs bags, there seems to be more willingness to experiment with quality vegan materials.

Isn't Dior make-up/perfume animal tested / produced by someone that tests?? I'm sure I read that, so I've always avoided it!

But seriously, if she is such a super vegan she should stop being greedy with all her special "only for me because I'm Natalie forking Portman" shoes.

I bought this up in the perfume thread, I gave away my beloved J'Adore when I went vegan as I assumed they tested on animals and/or it contained something icky. Melanie mentioned that it probably doesn't contain anything animal-based but we're not 100% on the testing, though I'd still assume they do.

Oh man I thought I was safe from my shopoholic pregan days...Really want Dior shoes! I'm going to campaign all my favourite designers to make vegan shoes and bags and then since I'll be the one responsible I'll get free samples of everything whaaaaat I like dreaming.

And to make their products ethically.

Hmm, if she is wearing Dior shoes in a Dior ad she is advertising the leather shoes, considering vegan ones are not an option.

Sometimes there are accidentally vegan shoes. That is why I love the chic sock boot look that is in. So many fabric loves. Not that I can afford one of them.

We should all buy ourselves xmas presents from our favorite vegan-only store in happy consumer protest. :)

I wish they didn't, I love Pure Poison and my pregan bottle ran out a while ago!!
