Maybe not directly UK government related but, is anyone else cynical enough to think how convenient it is to find "explosive devices" on cargo planes in the same week that the chairman of BA complains about the ridiculous security procedures the rest of the world has to adhere to if they want to fly into US air space?

Some of my family and I were in a hotel on sunday morning and they were showing the rememberance day celebrations. David Cameron came on and my auntie said, there's the PM and then cheered. I nearly vomited all down myself and her.

That animal welfare story was so upsetting.

also...what the hell? What a stupid idea. These companies will do nothing, why would they? They are motivated to make as much money for themselves as possible and that means selling fast food. Ugh. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/nov/12/mcdonalds-pepsico-help-health-policy"This is the equivalent of putting the tobacco industry in charge of smoke-free spaces. We know this 'let's all get round the table approach' doesn't work, because we've all tried it before, including the last Conservative government. This isn't 'big society', it's big business."

This is kinda interesting, though I know it's not actually gonna do anything other than point out the douchebaggery of most (university-educated) MPs.

So the vote for tuition fee increases won. Really angry right now... not surprised but still really angry. Shame on them.
'Work really hard kids and you can be saddled with a debt that would have bought you a flat fifteen years ago!' isn't very inspiring is it? fork.

It makes me terrified for what will happen to me (I'm going to do a masters and a phd after I've finished my course this summer). Grrrr.

Actually, to add to that. You know what has always pissed me off royally about any talk of degrees and fees and blahdiblah? This shiitake about graduates earning soooooooo much more forking money than other people. What? I'm a 'graduate'. So are most people I know. I (and many of them) earn about £16k a year (working 6 days a week in my case). Shut the fork up about all (or even 'most'!) graduates earning a shit-tonne of money already. It's not always a fast-track ticket to disposable income joyousness. I will never repay my student loans. And you're only making it worse.

You know what also irritates me? In order to get into any kind of position where I would be able to make a positive difference to the country, I would have to join either the Labour party or the Conservatives and go along with whatever they wanted to do. And probably get into a situation where I couldn't make any positive difference without everyone else disagreeing and me being sacked. If I knew the first thing about politics I would try to start a new party. (I realise there are other political parties in the UK, I was just talking of the ones in power)

The argument "you're going to get a return on your investment, so quit your bisqueing" goes both ways. Taxpayers also benefit from funding the development of a well-educated workforce...
