My 23rd is coming up in less than two months.

Isn't it fun?!

Happy Diaversary mollyjade, cake is certainly called for.
It made me realise I'll have my 10 year diaversary in January, that's gone really fast, time seems to fly when you spend half of it sticking needles in yourself

I can't even imagine a day without repeatedly checking my blood sugar.

I'm actually kind of hopeful about the closed loop artificial pancreas. It's not a cure, but it's a hell of an improvement over current management. It responds well to eating anything and exercising.

I'll have to look into this. I know nothing about it. Or any other promising technologies.

I have my annual poke and prod session at the DB centre today. I'm looking forward to this as much as I do root canal

Do you only have to go in once a year? Or is this additional poking?

I have really good control so the DB centre only see me once a year (I won't be going any more frequently in future even if it gets worse and they know that), but my GP who prescribes my meds insists on seeing and doing all the same tests annually as well

Today was pretty good, the specialist I first saw 8 years ago was a dick (I was hospitalized when first diagnosed and the 90 year old in the bed next to me had alzheimers and kept forgetting that his wife had died, so every time his family told him he got upset. When the specialist asked him why he was crying one day he said he had lost his wife, specialist said "where is she", old man said "shes dead", specialist said "oh I thought you said you lost her?" and started laughing)
Anyway I haven't seen the specialist in 6 years, usually I seen another member of the team and last year it was a new doctors first day and she was horrible and labelled my pathology/urine requests wrong so this year when I went to have tests it caused loads of trouble.
Today I saw the dick specialist and he was FANTASTIC.
He was lovely, I was telling him about the last doctor and he said "DONT TALK TO ME ABOUT HER, SHE HAS MOVED ON THANK GOD, IT WAS A HORRIBLE 8 MONTHS WITH HER HERE AND GOOD RIDDANCE. I'M NOT SURPRISED YOU HAD ISSUES WITH HER"

Regarding my results he's happy, HBA1C is 35 which I think is either 5.4 or 6 in MMOL/L, the only thing he was concerned about is my Cholesterol being 4.9, he mentioned possibly statins but said my good Cholesterol was really high so its not too bad.

Pretty good visit all in all

Thank you. Strangely, I'm still sick of this.

So, last night before bed, I was low.

I must have overcompensated, because this morning I was sky high. Highest I've been in years and years. So I took 6 units of Humalog, which should take me down ~400 points. (I told you: I was high.) I didn't eat anything. This was just to get me to a reasonable base level. 3.5 hours later, I've come down about 250 points. That's it? That's all you got?

So forkin fun.

It's so hard to get your blood sugar down once it's gone that high. And then the rest of the day is wonky.

My latest:

Eye exam good. Still no sign of retinopathy.

A1C is up.

Endless rejiggering of carb ratio and so forth.

What if this could be a take-a-pill-once-a-day-and-you're-all-set kind of thing?

Congratulations on the eye exam!

That pill would be a dream come true

You guys are awesome. I want to get better at diabetic counseling, but it doesn't really work in geriatrics where people either have dementia and can't really participate in dietary management OR they say things such as "no, thanks. I'm just going to eat whatever I want. can you buy me a box of krispy kremes?" well, fair enough, I guess, but you could pick better doughnuts!

sorry, you can ignore my random interludes!

You know how diabetes is just so predictable and reasonable? How you always know what to expect after eating this amount of food or taking this amount of insulin?

Yeah, me neither.

My A1C is down! (Still too high, at 7.8, but lower is better.)

High five!

My blood sugars were all over the place for awhile, and we couldn't figure out what was going wrong. And then I realized I had the time set wrong on my pump (mixed up AM/PM). I felt like that person who calls tech support only to discover they forgot to plug in the computer.
