Good luck with your dreadies creep :) I think I'm going to let mine grow a little more before I start mine. Also I watched that video and went to the dreadlock truth website, both very helpful. Thank you both for posting those :)

My hair is really long, really brown, and really the same for years. It has very few layers and is all one length. I'm not going to cut it all off yet since I told a friend I'd keep it long for her wedding (though I'm not totally sure if I really want to cut it all off anyway). So I'm thinking bangs. I haven't had them since I was 12 or so, but I am tired of having all my hair the same length. I don't know if I should go with longer side-swept bangs or blunter straight ones. I do not style my hair. I don't even own a brush anymore. Do you have to do anything to bangs?

Side sweep is always flattering! Blunt straight bangs are really cute if you can pull em off; for some reason they emphasize your nose if you've got a strong one so people like me with crazy viking noses can't pull em off.

BUT! I throw my vote in for cutting it all off! I had hair to the small of my back for almost my whole life and I chopped it off to my shoulders a month ago, then again to my ears and then again to boycrop short, and it is the best most liberating feeling!

We (my fiance and I) actually ended up taking them out last night. They were way spread out and placed strangely. I'm not sure if it's because my hair is so thin, or if we need to start at the top instead of the bottom. They were really tight though, so it took forever to get them out... and now I'm kind of reluctant to start over. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.

Yyyyyyeah, change of plans for now. I trimmed the nasty ends and dyed it a few shades darker. Works for now.

okay, my hair is at an awkward in-between phase and I miss my short hair, but at the same time I really want to grow it out! It hasn't touched my shoulders in years.

Here's what its growing from:

Here's where it is now:

and here is me wishing it was short again:

I'm in the same boat, boober! I always seem to go through cycles of grow it, chop it, grow it, chop it and it never ends up getting far past my shoulders because I hate awkward in-between phase so much (and love it short).

Soooo for now I'm still growing it (it's right past my shoulders now) except my bangs really need a trim... I'm going back to straight bangs (again, cycle: straight, sideswept, straight, sideswept) but waiting until after the nutcracker.

Today at work I had my hair in a regular ponytail for the first time in ages (it's always a messy bun) and as I would turn around it would hit my neck... I haven't had that feeling in so long!!

boober, I like both lengths on you! But when it comes to picking short or long, I say let it get as long as is comfortable, then chop it all off and donate to Locks of Love (if it's long enough)! :)

Try to be patient, Boober. I'd love to see how it looks when it's longer.
But I know how you feel. Mine might even be a little longer than Louzilla's now, and I really miss my short haircut. In fact I've kind of been missing it since summer. But I just can't afford to have it trimmed every month. My hair grows really fast, and that haircut needs precision to look cool. *pouts*

I LOVE the shortie baby dreads that look like an anime character sooooo much. If only they would work with my hair and stay short baby dreads forever.

But it doesn't and they won't.

You however look cute!

I've been wanting to dread my hair again for ages but I keep getting impatient & cutting it - I can't deal with my hair being longer than shoulder length because it goes all flat & weird!

I am growing mine out because I've gotten 3 haircuts in the year I've lived here (all with different stylists at different salons, from cheap to more expensive) and they all suck - I miss my old stylist.

Here's a pic from about 18 months ago - longer, one length.

Image

Here's the haircut I like that no one can replicate.

I am ready for new hair. I have an appointment on the 22nd. We'll see what happens! I'm pretty sure the goal is to grow it out though.

Hey, you pretty much do! The back of mine was a little different but hurray!

I decided I can't deal with my hair so I'm going in for a cut to attempt to even the layers soon. My hair is essentially two layers in back - the longest layer and one that's about 2" shorter - HORRIBLE.

Here's a pic which illustrates some of my problems. It's a lil flatter than usual cause I haven't showered yet today, but the one side always flips up, and the other down, and the side that flips up has funny layers.

Okay, I scheduled an appointment for salon #4 (right next door to the last place I got my hair cut). It's supposed to be really expensive but it's $35 for a wash/cut/dry and $25 for a wash/cut, so that's exciting.

Tomorrow I'll take a pic of the REAL after, without 3 kinds of hair product, blow drying, and flat ironing.
